The Aikido Fellowship of Great Britain
and the British Aikido Board
Shihan Ralph Reynolds founded the Aikido Fellowship of Great Britain
in 1963. He was the first Aikido Instructor to instruct
Aikido in the UK outside of the London area. A student of Sensei K
Abbe and Sensei M Nakazono, he has been an inspiration to many
instructors and Associations throughout the United Kingdom. The Aikido Fellowship continues to be a significant player within the British
Aikido Board (BAB). In order to ensure adequate time is spent on the
weapons side of Aikido, the Fellowship adopted a policy of grading
the weapons side of Aikido separately from the unarmed Aikido.
Shihan Reynolds dedicated his life in the pursuit of the advancement of Aikido, from both the physical and the mental aspects.
Sadly, Shihan Reynolds passed away on Thursday 19th January 2006.
His legacy continues through new Association Lead: Hanshi J Phelps. Hanshi Phelps and the AFGB Yudanshakai are dedicated to continuing Shihan Reynolds' legacy.
The British Aikido Board (BAB)
Bringing together over 30 associations under one umbrella organisation,
the BAB is the Sports England (formally the British Sports Council)
recognised governing body for Aikido in the UK.
Associations cover all forms of Aikido including Traditional, Ki and
Tomeki styles of Aikido.
